Eating Horse Meat is Permissible, Eating Donkey Meat is Forbidden

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) allowed his followers to eat the flesh of horses but forbade them from eating the flesh of donkeys.

It was narrated that Jabir said: " On the Day of Khaibar, the Messenger of Allah allowed us to eat the flesh of horses but he forbade us from the flesh of donkeys".
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ وَاقِدٍ - عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، وَعَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، وَعَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ أَطْعَمَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ لُحُومَ الْخَيْلِ وَنَهَانَا عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that Prophet Muhammad allowed his followers to eat the flesh of horses but forbade them from eating the flesh of donkeys. This hadith teaches us that we should follow what our Prophet has commanded and not do anything that he has forbidden. We should also be mindful about what we consume and make sure it is permissible according to Islamic teachings. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about being respectful towards animals and not consuming their meat if it is forbidden by our religion.
