Migration from Shirk to Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Muhajirin (emigrants) who left their homes and migrated to Medina, and some of the Ansar were also considered Muhajirun because they left shirk (idolatry) in Medina.

It was narrated that Jabir bin Zaid said: "Ibn 'Abbas said: 'The Messenger of Allah , Abu Bakr and 'Umar were among the Muhajirin (emigrants), because they forsook (hajaru) the idolators, and some of the Ansar were Muhajirun because Al-Madinah was a land of shirk, and they came to the Messenger of Allah on the Night of Al-'Aqabah"'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of migration from shirk to Islam. It was narrated by Jabir bin Zaid that Ibn 'Abbas said that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) along with Abu Bakr and Umar were among the Muhajirin as they forsook idolators and some of the Ansar were also considered Muhajirin as Al-Madinah was a land of shirk. They all migrated to Medina on the Night of Al-'Aqabah in order to practice Islam without any fear or oppression. This hadith teaches us that it is important for us to leave our homes if we are living in an environment where we cannot practice our faith freely or if there is any kind of oppression against us due to our beliefs. We should strive hard for a better place where we can practice our faith without any fear or oppression.
