The Best Kind of Emigration

SUMMARY: The best kind of emigration is to leave what Allah dislikes, and the town dweller is more severely tested and more greatly rewarded.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Amr said: "A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Which emigration (Hijrah) is best?' He said: 'To leave what your Lord, the Mighty and Sublime, dislikes'. He said: 'There are two kinds of emigration, the emigration of the town dweller and the emigration of the Bedouin. As for the Bedouin, when he is called (to fight in Jihad) he must respond, and he must obey when he is commanded, and as for the town dweller, he is the one who is more severely tested and more greatly rewarded"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Leave what your Lord dislikes; Respond positively when called upon; Remain steadfast in faith & actions; Do your best to please Allah
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of emigrating from what Allah dislikes. It explains that there are two kinds of emigration - the emigration of a town dweller and the emigration of a Bedouin. For a town dweller, they are more severely tested but also more greatly rewarded for their efforts. As for a Bedouin, when they are called to fight in jihad they must respond and obey when commanded. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to do our best in order to please Allah by leaving behind what He dislikes and by responding positively when called upon for jihad or any other task that requires our attention. We should also remember that although it may be difficult at times due to tests we face along the way, we will be rewarded if we remain steadfast in our faith and actions.
