Reverting to Disbelief and Killing One Another

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned Jarir bin 'Abdullah to not revert to disbelievers and kill one another after he is gone.

It was narrated that Jarir bin 'Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW said to me: 'Ask the people to be quiet and listen'. Then he said: 'I do not want to see you after I am gone reverting to disbelievers, striking the necks of one another (killing one another)'."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ أَبِي السَّفَرِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ جَرِيرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏"‏ اسْتَنْصِتِ النَّاسَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ لاَ أُلْفِيَنَّكُمْ بَعْدَ مَا أَرَى تَرْجِعُونَ بَعْدِي كُفَّارًا يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُكُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ

The hadith narrated by Jarir bin 'Abdullah speaks of the importance of avoiding reverting to disbelief and killing one another. This hadith was said by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He warned Jarir bin 'Abdullah that if he were to revert back to disbelief, it would be a great sin in the eyes of Allah.
