Sunan an-Nasai 3680 (Book 31, Hadith 9) #18294
Treating Children Equally

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) advised a father to treat all his children equally and with respect.

It was narrated from An-Nu'man that his father brought him to the Prophet to bear witness to a present that he gave to him. He said: "Have you given all your children a present like that which you have given to him?" He said: "No". He said: "I will not bear witness to anything. Will it not please you if they were all to treat you with equal respect?" He said: "Of course". He said: "Then no (I will not do it)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat your children fairly & respectfully

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of treating all children equally and with respect. It was narrated from An-Nu'man that his father brought him to the Prophet to bear witness to a present that he gave to him. The Prophet asked if he had given all his children a present like that which he had given An-Nu'man, and when the father said no, the Prophet refused to bear witness. He then advised the father that it would be better for him if he treated all of his children equally and with respect. This teaches us an important lesson about parenting; we should not show favoritism towards any one child but rather treat them all fairly and respectfully so they can grow up feeling loved by their parents.
