EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of doing good deeds in life. It was narrated by Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said that when a man dies all his good deeds come to an end except three things; ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge and a righteous son who prays for him. This means that even after death these three things will still benefit the deceased person. Ongoing charity refers to any charitable act which continues to benefit people even after the donor has passed away such as building a mosque or setting up an educational institution. Beneficial knowledge is any kind of knowledge which can be used by others such as writing books or teaching people skills which can help them in their lives. Lastly, having a righteous son who prays for you means having someone who remembers you in their prayers and asks Allah to forgive your sins and grant you mercy on the Day of Judgement. All these acts are important because they will continue to benefit us even after we have passed away from this world.
