The Prophet's Warning to His Tribe and Family

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned his tribe and family that he could not help them before Allah.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said, when the Verse: 'And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred'. was revealed: 'O Quraish! Buy your souls from your Lord; I cannot avail you anything before Allah. O Banu 'Abdul-Muttalib! I cannot avail you anything before Allah. O 'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib! I cannot avail you anything before Allah. O Safiyyah, paternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah! I cannot avail you anything before Allah. O Fatimah bint Muhammad! Ask me for whatever you want, I cannot avail you anything before Allah'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's warning to his tribe and family. He was instructed by Allah in the Quran to warn his tribe of near kindred. In response to this instruction from Allah, the Prophet warned his people that he could not avail them anything before Allah. He also told his paternal aunt Safiyyah that he could not avail her anything before Allah but then told his daughter Fatimah bint Muhammad that she can ask him for whatever she wants as it is within his power to give her what she desires. This hadith teaches us a few important values such as humility and obedience towards God's commands as well as love for our families and tribes. It also shows us how much importance the prophet placed on fulfilling God's commands even if it meant disappointing those closest to him.
