Sunan an-Nasai 3528 (Book 27, Hadith 140) #18140
Concession Granted by the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad granted a concession to a woman whose husband was killed while pursuing slaves, and advised her to stay in her house until the term prescribed is fulfilled.

It was narrated from Al-Fari'ah bint Malik that her husband went out to pursue some slaves and they killed him. Shu'bah and Ibn Juraij said: "She was in a remote house. She came with her brothers to the Messenger of Allah and told him (about the situation) and he granted her a concession. When she was leaving he called her back and said: 'Stay in your house until the term prescribed is fulfilled'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about an incident that happened during the time of Prophet Muhammad. Al-Fari'ah bint Malik's husband went out to pursue some slaves and they killed him. She came with her brothers to the Messenger of Allah and told him what happened. He granted her a concession and when she was leaving he called her back and said that she should stay in her house until the term prescribed is fulfilled. This hadith teaches us that even in difficult times, we should seek help from Allah through prayer as well as seek advice from those who are knowledgeable about Islamic law so that we can make decisions based on wisdom rather than emotion or impulse. It also teaches us that it is important for women to remain in their homes unless there is an urgent need for them to go out or if they have permission from their guardians or husbands.
