The Rewards of Jihad and Belief

SUMMARY: Jihad and belief in Allah are the best of deeds, and if one is killed in the cause of Allah while being patient and seeking reward, their sins will be forgiven.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Qatadah that he heard Abu Qatadah narrate from the Messenger of Allah , that he stood up among them and said that Jihad in the cause of Allah and belief in Allah are the best of deeds. Then a man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the cause of Allah, will Allah forgive my sins?" The Messenger of Allah said: "Yes, if you are killed in the cause of Allah, and you are patient and seek reward, and you are facing the enemy, not running way - except for debt. Jibril (peace be upon him) told me that".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds such as striving towards your faith through acts like Jihad; remain steadfast even when faced with difficult situations; seek reward from God etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of jihad and faith in Allah. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Qatadah who heard it from Abu Qatadah who heard it from the Messenger of Allah himself. The Prophet said that jihad in the cause of Allah and belief in Him are two great deeds that will bring rewards to those who do them. He then answered a man's question about whether or not his sins would be forgiven if he were to die while doing jihad for Allah's sake; he said yes as long as they were patient, seeking reward, facing their enemy instead of running away except for debt. Jibril also confirmed this to him. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to do good deeds such as jihad for our faith in order to receive rewards from God even after death. It also encourages us to remain steadfast even when faced with difficult situations so that we can reap these rewards later on.
