Sunan an-Nasai 3156 (Book 25, Hadith 72) #17768
Forgiveness for Dying in the Cause of Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a man asking the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) if Allah will forgive his sins if he dies in the cause of Allah with patience and seeking reward, facing the enemy and not running away. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said yes, except debt.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah that his father said: "A man came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the cause of Allah with patience and seeking reward, facing the enemy and not running away, do you think that Allah will forgive my sins?' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Yes'. When the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah called him back and said: 'What did you say?' He repeated his question, and the Messenger of Allah said: 'Yes, except debt. Jibril told me'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about forgiveness from Allah for those who die in His cause with patience and seeking reward, facing their enemies instead of running away. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah that his father asked the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) if a person who dies while fighting for Allah's cause would be forgiven by Him. The Prophet Muhammad replied that yes, all sins would be forgiven except debt. He then called back the man to confirm what he said before Jibril told him so. This hadith teaches us to have faith in God's mercy and forgiveness even when we are faced with difficult situations such as war or battle against our enemies. We should also strive to seek reward from Him through our good deeds and patience during these times instead of running away from them out of fear or cowardice.
