Sunan an-Nasai 3106 (Book 25, Hadith 22) #17718
Striving for Allah and Refraining from Bad

SUMMARY: The best of people are those who strive in the cause of Allah until death, while the worst are those who read the Book of Allah but do not refrain from doing bad.

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri said: "in the year of Tabuk, the Messenger of Allah addressed the people, while leaning against his mount. He said: 'Shall I not tell you of the best of the people and the worst of the people? Among the best of the people is a man who strives in the cause of Allah on the back of his horse, or on the back of his camel, or on his own two feet, until death comes to him. And among the worst of the people, is an immoral man (Fajir) who reads the Book of Allah but he does not refrain from doing anything bad because of it'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive in the cause of Allah until death comes to you, Read God's book and act upon what you learn

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about two types of people; the best and the worst. The best are those who strive in the cause of Allah until death comes to them. This means that they dedicate their lives to serving God and His religion, no matter what it takes or how hard it is. On the other hand, there are also people who read God's book but do not refrain from doing bad things because of it. This shows that knowledge alone is not enough; one must also act upon what they learn in order to be considered among the best people.
