Sahih al-Bukhari 1845 (Book 28, Hadith 25) #1768
Designated Miqat for Hajj and Umra

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) designated certain places as Miqat for people of different regions to assume Ihram from when performing Hajj and Umra.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet fixed Dhul-Hulaifa as the Miqat (the place for assuming Ihram) for the people of Medina, and Qaran-al-Manazil for the people of Najd, and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. These Mawaqit are for those people and also for those who come through these Mawaqit (from places other than the above-mentioned) with the intention of (performing) Hajj and Umra. And those living inside these Mawaqit can assume Ihram from the place where they start; even the people of Mecca can assume Ihram from Mecca.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic rituals such as assuming Ihram at a designated place before embarking on a pilgrimage journey such as Hajj or Umrah .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) designated certain places as Miqat for people of different regions to assume Ihram from when performing Hajj and Umra. Dhul-Hulaifa was the Miqat for the people of Medina, Qaran-al-Manazil was the Miqat for the people of Najd, and Yalamlam was the Miqat for the people of Yemen. These Mawaqit are not only applicable to those living in these areas but also those who come through these Mawaqit with an intention to perform Hajj or Umra. Even those living in Mecca can assume Ihram from Mecca itself. This hadith teaches us that it is important to follow Islamic rituals such as assuming Ihram at a designated place before embarking on a pilgrimage journey such as Hajj or Umra. It also teaches us that we should be mindful about following Islamic rules even if we are already living in an Islamic country like Saudi Arabia where many Muslims live and practice their faith regularly.
