Entering Ihram for Hajj and Stipulating Conditions

SUMMARY: The hadith explains how a woman should enter Ihram for Hajj and stipulate a condition that she will exit Ihram from the point where she is prevented from continuing if any problem arises.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "Duba'ah bint Az-Zubair bin 'Abdul-Muttalib came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'I am a heavy woman and I want to go for Hajj. How do I begin the Ihram?' He said: 'Enter Ihram and stipulate the condition that you will exit Ihram from the point where you are prevented (from continuing, if some problem should arise)". (Sahih) Ishaq said: I said to 'Abdur-Razzaq: Both from 'Aishah, HIsham and Az-Zuhir? He said: "Yes" Abu 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasa'i) said: I do not know of anyone who narrated this chain from Az-Zuhri except Ma'mar. Chpater 61. أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، وَعَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى ضُبَاعَةَ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي شَاكِيَةٌ وَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ الْحَجَّ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ‏ "‏ حُجِّي وَاشْتَرِطِي إِنَّ مَحِلِّي حَيْثُ تَحْبِسُنِي ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ كِلاَهُمَا عَنْ عَائِشَةَ هِشَامٌ وَالزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ نَعَمْ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ لاَ أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَسْنَدَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ غَيْرَ مَعْمَرٍ وَاللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى أَعْلَمُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the procedure of entering Ihram for Hajj as instructed by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Duba'ah bint Az-Zubair bin 'Abdul-Muttalib came to the Prophet ﷺ asking about how to begin her Ihram for Hajj as she was a heavy woman. The Prophet ﷺ instructed her to enter into an Ihram and stipulate a condition that if any problem arises during her journey then she can exit her state of Ihram at the point where it is prevented. This hadith teaches us that when we are embarking on any journey or task we should always make sure to plan ahead in case something goes wrong so that our efforts are not wasted or ruined due to unforeseen circumstances. It also teaches us about being mindful of our intentions when performing religious duties such as Hajj or Umrah so that they are accepted by Allah SWT in sha Allah.
