Sunan an-Nasai 2612 (Book 23, Hadith 178) #17223
Collecting Sadaqah is Not Permissible for Us

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad appointed a man from Banu Makhzum to collect Sadaqah, and he prohibited Abu Rafi from going with him as the Sadaqah was not permissible for them.

It was narrated from Ihn Abi Rafi, from his father, that: the Messenger of Allah appointed a man from Banu Makhzum to collect Sadaqah. Abu Rafi wanted to go with him, but the Messenger of Allah said: "The Sadaqah is not permissible for us, and the freed slave of a people is one of them".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity when allowed by Islamic law; Respect decisions made by Prophet Muhammad; Be humble and modest; Do not take advantage of those who are less fortunate than you.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of charity and how it should be given to those who are in need. The Prophet Muhammad appointed a man from Banu Makhzum to collect Sadaqah, which is an act of charity that Muslims are encouraged to do. However, he prohibited Abu Rafi from going with him as the Sadaqah was not permissible for them. This teaches us that we should give charity only when it is allowed by Islamic law and not just out of our own desires or whims. We should also be mindful that we do not take advantage of those who are less fortunate than us by taking their money without permission or without giving something in return. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about humility and modesty; even though Abu Rafi wanted to go with the man collecting sadaqa, he respected the Prophet's decision and did not argue against it.
