The Consequences of Asking When One Has Enough

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the consequences of asking for something when one has enough to make them independent.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever asks when he has enough to make him independent of means will have lacerations on his face on the Day of Resurrection'. It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what would make him independent of means?' He said: 'Fifty Dirhams or its equivalent of gold"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask only if you need it; Be content with what you have; Remember your actions are being judged by God; Stay within God's limits; Have patience and trust in His plan and provision.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the consequences of asking for something when one has enough to make them independent. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that whoever asks for something when they have enough will have lacerations on their face on the Day of Resurrection. When asked what would make someone independent, he replied fifty dirhams or its equivalent in gold. This hadith teaches us that we should not ask for more than what we need and should be content with what Allah has given us. We should also remember that our actions will be judged by Allah and it is important to stay within His limits so as not to incur any punishment in the hereafter.
