Sunan an-Nasai 2582 (Book 23, Hadith 148) #17193
The Virtue of Charity and Upholding Family Ties

SUMMARY: Giving charity to a poor person is an act of charity, and giving to a relative is both an act of charity and upholding the ties of kinship.

It was narrated from Salman bin 'Amir that the Prophet said: "Giving charity to a poor person is charity, and (giving) to a relative is two things, charity and upholding the ties of kinship".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the virtue of giving charity, particularly to those who are in need. It also emphasizes the importance of upholding family ties by giving to relatives. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when we give charity to a poor person, it is considered an act of kindness and mercy towards them. However, when we give to our relatives, it serves two purposes - it is both an act of kindness as well as strengthening our family bonds. This hadith encourages us to be generous with our wealth and resources while also reminding us that we should not forget about our family members who may be in need.
