QUICK LESSONS:
Have an intention before beginning any act of worship
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of having an intention when fasting. It was narrated by Hamzah bin 'Abdullah bin 'Umar that his father said that Hafsah, the wife of Prophet Muhammad said “There is no fast for the one who does not intend before dawn”. This means that in order for a fast to be valid and accepted by Allah SWT, it must be accompanied with an intention beforehand. Without this intention, a person’s fasting will not be accepted even if they abstain from food and drink during the day. Therefore it is important to remember to make an intention before beginning any act of worship so that it can be accepted by Allah SWT and rewarded accordingly.
