Fasting While Travelling

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Hamzah to fast while travelling if he wished, but also gave him the option not to fast.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "Hamzah said to the Messenger of Allah: 'O Messenger of Allah, should I fast while traveling?' He used to fast a great deal. The Messenger of Allah said to him: "If you wish then fast and if you wish then do not fast"'.

We should take into account our own physical and mental health when making decisions about how we practice our faith. Additionally, this hadith shows us that it is important to be mindful of others’ needs and feelings when making decisions about religious practices.
