Exemption for Menstruating Women in Tawaf-al-Wada'

SUMMARY: Women who are menstruating are excused from performing the Tawaf of the Ka'ba.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The people were ordered to perform the Tawaf of the Ka'ba (Tawaf-al-Wada') as the lastly thing, before leaving (Mecca), except the menstruating women who were excused.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect those who may be going through difficult times or have certain conditions which prevent them from doing certain activities.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Abbas states that people were ordered to perform the ritual of circumambulation around the Ka'ba as their last act before leaving Mecca. However, this order did not apply to women who were menstruating at that time. This exemption was given to them as a sign of respect and understanding towards their condition. This hadith teaches us that we should be considerate towards those who may be going through difficult times or have certain conditions which prevent them from doing certain activities. We should also strive to make sure that everyone is treated with respect regardless of their gender or any other factor.
