Sunan an-Nasai 2167 (Book 22, Hadith 78) #16778
Eating Sahur Together

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wanted to fast and asked Anas for something to eat. Anas gave him dates and water, then the Prophet asked Anas to find someone else to eat with him. Zaid bin Thabit came and said he had already eaten Sawiq, but the Prophet still ate Sahr with him before praying two Rak'ahs.

It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allah said, at the time of Sahur'.O Anas, I want to fast, so give me something to eat'. So I brought him some dates and a vessel of water. That was after the Adhan of Bilal. He said: 'O Anas, find a man to come and eat with me'. So I called Zaid bin Thabit, who came and said: "I drank some Sawiq and I want to fast'. The Messenger of Allah said: "I also want to fast'. So he ate Sahr with him, then he got up and prayed two Rak'ahs, then he went out to the prayer".

QUICK LESSONS:
Eat Sahur together , Be generous , Be kind-hearted , Share meals together

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of eating sahur together during Ramadan. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik that the Messenger of Allah said at the time of sahur, "O Anas, I want to fast so give me something to eat." So he brought some dates and a vessel of water for him. Then he asked for someone else to join him in eating sahur so he called Zaid bin Thabit who had already eaten sawiq but still joined in eating sahur with the Prophet before praying two Rak'ahs afterwards. This hadith teaches us that it is important for Muslims during Ramadan not only to fast but also share their meals together as a community even if they have already eaten beforehand as it brings them closer together spiritually and physically. It also shows us how generous and kind-hearted our beloved prophet was towards his companions even when fasting himself.
