Hastening Prayer and Iftar

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of hastening prayer and Iftar, as it was the practice of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

It was narrated that Abu 'Atiyyah said: "Masruq and I came to 'Aishah, and Masruq said to her: 'There are two men from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah both of whom are good; one of them delays the prayer and Iftar, and the other hastens the prayer and Iftar'. 'Aishah said: 'Which of them is the one who hastens the prayer and Iftar?' Masruq said: 'That is what the Messenger of Allah used to do"'.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَ دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَمَسْرُوقٌ، عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَسْرُوقٌ رَجُلاَنِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ كِلاَهُمَا لاَ يَأْلُو عَنِ الْخَيْرِ أَحَدُهُمَا يُؤَخِّرُ الصَّلاَةَ وَالْفِطْرَ وَالآخَرُ يُعَجِّلُ الصَّلاَةَ وَالْفِطْرَ ‏.‏ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَيُّهُمَا الَّذِي يُعَجِّلُ الصَّلاَةَ وَالْفِطْرَ قَالَ مَسْرُوقٌ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ‏.‏ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ هَكَذَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of hastening prayer and iftar. It was narrated by Abu 'Atiyyah that Masruq and he went to visit Aishah. Masruq asked her which one of two men from among the Companions of Prophet Muhammad was better; one who delays prayer and iftar or one who hastens them. Aishah replied that it is better to hasten them as this was what Prophet Muhammad used to do. This hadith teaches us that we should follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet by performing our prayers on time and breaking fast at its prescribed time. We should also encourage others to do so too in order for us to gain Allah's blessings.
