The Power of Fear in Repentance

SUMMARY: A man who thought badly of his deeds was forgiven by Allah when he expressed his fear of Him.

It was narrated from Hudhaifah that the Messenger of Allah said: "There was a man among those who came before you who thought badly of his deeds, so when death was approaching he said to his family: 'When I am dead, burn my body and grind up my bones, then scatter me in the sea, for if Allah gets hold of me, He will never forgive me'. But Allah commanded the angles to seize his soul. He said to him: 'What made you do what you did?' He said:: 'O Lord, I only did it because I feared You'. So Allah forgave him".

Seek repentance & forgiveness from God with true fear & sincerity .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the power of repentance and fear in seeking forgiveness from Allah. It tells the story of a man who, upon realizing that death was near, asked his family to burn and grind up his body after he died so that Allah would not be able to get hold of him. However, Allah commanded the angels to seize his soul and asked him why he did what he did. The man replied that it was out of fear for Him, so Allah forgave him. This hadith teaches us that even if we have done wrong things in our lives, we can still seek forgiveness from Allah if we are truly repentant and fearful for His punishment. It also shows us how merciful He is towards those who sincerely seek His mercy and forgiveness.
