Fear of God Leads to Forgiveness

SUMMARY: A man wronged himself greatly and was afraid of Allah's punishment, so he asked his family to burn his body and scatter it in the wind and sea. Allah then asked him why he did this, to which the man replied out of fear of Him. Allah then forgave him.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'There was a man who wronged himself greatly, and when he was dying he said to his family: When I am dead, burn my body then grind my bones and scatter me in the wind and at sea, for by Allah , if Allah gets hold of me, he will punish me in a way that He will not punish anyone else. So his family did that, but Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said to everything that had taken any part of him to give up what it had taken. Then there he was, standing Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said: What made you do what you did? He said: Fear of You. So Allah forgave him"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be repentant with sincere fear in your heart for God's punishment .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about a man who had done something wrong and was afraid that Allah would punish him severely for it. He asked his family to burn his body after death and scatter it in the wind and sea, thinking that this would prevent Allah from punishing him. However, when he stood before Allah on Judgment Day, He asked why he had done what he did; the man replied out of fear for Him. In response, Allah forgave him for his misdeeds due to His mercy and compassion towards those who are truly fearful of Him. This teaches us that if we are truly repentant for our sins with sincere fear in our hearts for God's punishment, He will forgive us no matter how great our sins may be.
