Prayer for the Departed

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) announced the death of An-Najashi and led people in prayer.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah: That the Messenger of Allah announced the death of An-Najashi to the people, and he led them out and arranged them in rows, and said the Takbir four times.
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَعَى لِلنَّاسِ النَّجَاشِيَّ وَخَرَجَ بِهِمْ فَصَفَّ بِهِمْ وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ

This shows us that it is important to remember those who have passed away and to pray for their souls. It also teaches us that we should take time out of our day to remember those who have gone before us, as well as show respect for their memory by praying for them.
