Sunan an-Nasai 1852 (Book 21, Hadith 35) #16463
Mourning Prohibited in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prohibited wailing and helping others to mourn upon the death of a loved one in Islam.

It was narrated from Anas that: when the Messenger of Allah accepted the women's oath of allegiance, he accepted their pledge that they would not wail (over the death). They said: "O Messenger of Allah, there are women who helped us to mourn during the Jahiliyyah should we help them to mourn?" The Messenger of Allah said: "There is no helping to mourn in Islam".

QUICK LESSONS:
Accept death with patience and faith; Remember Allah; Pray for the deceased person’s soul; Express grief without loud cries or excessive weeping; Be patient & accept Allah’s will with faith even though it may be difficult at times .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us that mourning over the death of a loved one is not allowed in Islam. This was revealed to him when some women asked him if they could help their friends who were used to mourning during the pre-Islamic period known as Jahiliyyah. He replied that there is no helping to mourn in Islam. This hadith teaches us that we should accept death with patience and faith instead of wailing or crying excessively over it. We should remember Allah and pray for the deceased person's soul instead of expressing our grief through loud cries or excessive weeping. We should also be patient and accept Allah's will with faith as He knows what is best for us even though it may be difficult for us at times.
