Making Up Missed Prayers

SUMMARY: It is possible to make up for missed prayers if they are recited before Zuhr prayer.

It was narrated from Abdur-Rahman bin Abdul-Qari that Umar bin Al-Khattab said: "Whoever misses his nightly portion and recites it from the time when the sun passes its zenith until Zuhr prayer, then he did not miss it, or it is as if he caught up with it".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is possible to make up for missed prayers if they are recited before the time of the Zuhr prayer. Umar bin Al-Khattab said that whoever misses their nightly portion of prayer and recites it from the time when the sun passes its zenith until the time of Zuhr prayer then they have not missed it or can be considered as having caught up with it. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to fulfill our religious obligations even if we have fallen behind in them due to any reason. We should also remember that Allah is Most Forgiving and Merciful so He will forgive us for our mistakes if we sincerely repent and try our best to make up for them.
