Sunan an-Nasai 1685 (Book 20, Hadith 88) #16296
The Importance of Praying Witr

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of praying witr after the adhan and iqamah, and how even Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once missed a prayer until sunrise.

It was narrated from Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Muntashir, from his father, that: He was in the masjid of 'Amr bin Shurahbil and the iqamah for prayer was said, and they were waiting. He came and said: "I was praying witr". Abdullah was asked: "Is there any witr after the adhan?" He said: "Yes, and after the Iqamah". And he narrated that the Prophet once slept and missed the prayer until the sun had risen, then he prayed.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray consistently no matter what time you perform your prayers at or how many times you have missed them before .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of praying witr after both adhan and iqamah. It was narrated by Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Muntashir from his father that he was in a masjid when they were waiting for prayer to begin. He came in late saying he was praying witr, to which Abdullah asked if there is any witr after adhan or iqamah. He replied yes, and then narrated that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once slept through a prayer until sunrise before performing it. This shows us that even though we should strive to pray on time, Allah will still forgive us if we miss it due to any reason as long as we make up for it later on with sincerity. We should also remember that Allah loves those who are consistent in their prayers no matter what time they are performed at or how many times they have been missed before.
