Moderation in Sermon Length

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ used to deliver sermons standing, then sitting, and reciting verses of the Quran while remembering Allah (SWT). His sermons and prayers were moderate in length.

It was narrated that Jabir bin Samurah said: "The Prophet used to deliver the Khutbah standing, then he would sit down, then he would stand up and recite some verses and remember Allah (SWT). And his Khutbah was moderate in length, and his prayer was moderate in length".

QUICK LESSONS:
Deliver sermons with moderation; Reflect on faith; Appreciate faith's beauty & power

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of moderation when delivering a sermon or prayer. It was narrated by Jabir bin Samurah that the Prophet Muhammad used to deliver his sermon standing, then he would sit down and recite some verses from the Quran while remembering Allah. His sermon and prayer were both moderate in length. This teaches us that we should not be too long-winded when delivering a sermon or prayer as it can become tiresome for those listening or participating. We should also remember to take time to reflect on our faith during these moments of worship so that we can truly appreciate its beauty and power.
