Sunan an-Nasai 1257 (Book 13, Hadith 79) #15865
The Power of Prostration for Forgetfulness

SUMMARY: This hadith is about Alqamah bin Qais who made a mistake in his prayer and was reminded of it by someone. He then undid his cloak and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness, as the Prophet (PBUH) did.

It was narrated that Malik bin Mighwal said: "I heard Ash-Sha'bi say: 'Alqamah bin Qais forgot (and made a mistake) in his prayer, and they told him about that after he had spoken, He said: 'Is that true, O odd-eyed one?' He said: 'Yes'. So he undid his cloak, then he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness, and said: 'This is what the Messenger of Allah did'. He said: And I heard Al-Hakam say: 'Alqamah had prayed five'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform two prostrations for forgetfulness when making a mistake in prayer .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of performing prostrations for forgetfulness when one makes a mistake in their prayer. It was narrated that Malik bin Mighwal said he heard Ash-Sha'bi say that Alqamah bin Qais forgot something in his prayer, and when they told him about it after he had spoken, he asked if it was true. When they confirmed it, he undid his cloak and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did. This shows us how important it is to perform these prostrations when we make mistakes during our prayers so that we can be forgiven by Allah SWT. It also teaches us to be humble and accept our mistakes without getting angry or frustrated with ourselves or others around us.
