Posture of Prostration and Sitting in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would hold his arms out to the sides when prostrating and rest on his left thigh when sitting.

It was narrated that Maimunah said: "When the Messenger of Allah prostrated, he would hold his arms out to his sides, so that the whiteness of his armpits could be seen from behind. And when he sat he rested on his left thigh".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to maintain proper posture during prayer
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Maimunah speaks about the posture of prayer, specifically prostrating and sitting. When prostrating, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would hold his arms out to the sides so that the whiteness of his armpits could be seen from behind. This is a sign of humility before Allah as one submits themselves completely to Him. When sitting, he would rest on his left thigh which is also a sign of humility as it shows respect for Allah's commands. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to maintain proper posture during prayer in order to show our utmost respect for Allah's commands and demonstrate our humility before Him.
