Sunan an-Nasai 1131 (Book 12, Hadith 103) #15739
Surprising Prayer of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) being found in a state of prayer and 'Aishah's surprise at this.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "I noticed that the Messenger of Allah was missing one night, and I thought he had gone to one of his other wives. I tried to feel for him, and I found him bowing or prostrating and saying: 'SubhanakAllahumma wa bihamdika la ilaha ila ant (Glory and praise be to You, O Allah, there is none worthy of worship but You)'" She said: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you. I thought you were doing one thing and you were doing something else altogether".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident that happened between the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his wife, Aisha. One night, Aisha noticed that her husband was missing and she thought he had gone to one of his other wives. She then felt for him in bed and found him bowing or prostrating while saying “SubhanakAllahumma wa bihamdika la ilaha ila ant” which translates to “Glory be to You, O Allah, there is none worthy of worship but You”. Upon hearing this, Aisha exclaimed “May my father and mother be ransomed for you! I thought you were doing one thing but you were doing something else altogether”. This hadith teaches us about the importance of prayer in Islam as well as how devoted the Prophet ﷺ was to it even when no one was watching him. It also shows us how surprised Aisha was upon finding out what her husband was actually doing instead of what she assumed he was doing.
