Sahih al-Bukhari 1639 (Book 25, Hadith 122) #1573
The Importance of Following the Example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of following the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and performing Hajj and Umrah.

Narrated Nafi': 'Abdullah bin 'Abdullah bin 'Umar and his riding animal entered the house of Ibn 'Umar. He (the son of Ibn 'Umar) said, "I fear that this year a battle might take place between the people and you might be prevented from going to the Ka'ba. I suggest that you should stay here". Ibn 'Umar said, "Once Allah's Messenger set out for the pilgrimage, and the pagans of Quraish intervened between him and the Ka'ba. So, if the people intervened between me and the Ka'ba, I would do the same as Allah's Messenger had done . . ".Verily, in Allah's Messenger you have a good example". Then he added, "I make you a witness that I have intended to perform Hajj along with 'Umra". After arriving at Mecca, Ibn 'Umar performed one Tawaf only (between Safa and Marwa).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of following in the footsteps of our beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Ibn Umar was faced with a difficult situation where he was not sure if he would be able to perform his pilgrimage due to potential conflict between people. He then remembered what our beloved prophet did when faced with a similar situation and decided that he would do as such as well. He made his son witness that he intended to perform both Hajj and Umrah despite any potential obstacles that may arise. When Ibn Umar arrived at Mecca, he only performed one Tawaf between Safa and Marwa which is what our beloved prophet did in a similar situation. This hadith teaches us that we should always look towards our beloved prophet for guidance in all matters no matter how difficult they may seem because Allah has given us an excellent example in him ﷺ . We should also strive to make sure we fulfill all religious obligations even if there are obstacles along the way because Allah will reward us for it inshaAllah.
