Reciting Twenty Surahs in Ten Rak'ahs

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reciting twenty surahs in ten rak'ahs.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: I know the similar surahs that the Messenger of Allah used to recite, twenty surahs in ten rak'ahs". Then he took 'Alqamah's hand and went in, then 'Alqamah came out and we asked him and he told us what they were.
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ إِنِّي لأَعْرِفُ النَّظَائِرَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِهِنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عِشْرِينَ سُورَةً فِي عَشْرِ رَكَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلْقَمَةَ فَدَخَلَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا عَلْقَمَةُ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ فَأَخْبَرَنَا بِهِنَّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the Prophet Muhammad's practice of reciting twenty surahs in ten rak'ahs during his prayer. A rak’ah is a unit of prayer that consists of standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting. It is narrated that Abdullah took Alqamah's hand and went into the mosque to pray. After they finished praying, Alqamah told them what surahs were recited during their prayer. This hadith shows us how important it was for the Prophet Muhammad to recite from the Quran during his prayers as well as how devoted he was to his faith and practice. It also teaches us that we should strive to recite from the Quran when we pray as well so that we can benefit from its teachings and guidance.
