Prostration of Repentance and Thanksgiving

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ prostrated in Sad and said that Dawud did this prostration in repentance while we do it in thanksgiving.

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that: The Prophet prostrated in Sad and said: "Dawud did this prostration in repentance and we do it in thanksgiving".
أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمِقْسَمِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ ذَرٍّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ سَجَدَ فِي ‏{‏ ص ‏}‏ وَقَالَ ‏ "‏ سَجَدَهَا دَاوُدُ تَوْبَةً وَنَسْجُدُهَا شُكْرًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prostrating to Allah. It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that the Prophet (ﷺ) prostrated himself in Sad and said that Dawud did this prostration as a sign of repentance, while we do it as a sign of thanksgiving. This hadith teaches us to be thankful for all the blessings Allah has bestowed upon us, and to repent for our sins. We should also remember that even if we make mistakes, Allah will forgive us if we sincerely repent for our wrongdoings. Furthermore, this hadith reminds us to always be grateful for all the good things in life and not take them for granted.
