Sunan an-Nasai 539 (Book 6, Hadith 46) #15147
Waiting for Prayer is Part of Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) delayed the Isha prayer one night and told his companions that they were still in a state of prayer as long as they were waiting for it.

Humaid said: "Anas was asked: 'Did the Prophet use a ring?' He said: 'Yes. One night he delayed the later 'Isha' prayer, until almost halfway through the night. When he prayed the Prophet turned his face toward us and said: 'You are still in a state of prayer so long as you waiting for it'." Anas said: 'It is as if I can see the luster of his ring'. According to the narration of 'Ali - that is, Ibn Hujr - "until halfway through the night".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of patience and waiting for prayer. It teaches us that even when we are not actively praying, we should remain in a state of readiness and anticipation for our prayers. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known to delay his Isha prayer until late at night, yet he still reminded his companions that they were still in a state of prayer while they waited. This hadith also speaks to the importance of being mindful and aware during our prayers; Anas said he could see the luster from the Prophet's ring while he prayed. We can learn from this hadith that even when we are not actively praying, we should remain mindful and aware so that when it is time to pray, we can do so with full presence and intentionality.
