Praying Without Wudu'

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ prayed with Ibn 'Abbas one night and made him stand on his right side. After the prayer, he reclined on his side and took a nap before the Mu'adhdhin came to him and he prayed again without performing Wudu'.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "I prayed with the Prophet one night, and I stood on his left, but he made me stand on his right, and he prayed. Then he reclined on his side and took a nap, then the Mu'adhdhin came to him and he prayed, and did not perform Wudu'".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray regularly ; Perform ablution whenever possible ; Follow Islamic teachings ; Have faith in Allah SWT

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer in Islam. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that he once prayed with the Prophet ﷺ one night, and was made to stand on his right side. After they finished their prayer, the Prophet ﷺ reclined on his side and took a nap before they were called for another prayer by the Mu’adhdhin. Despite this, when it was time for them to pray again, the Prophet ﷺ did not perform wudu’ or ablution beforehand. This shows us that even though wudu’ is an important part of our prayers as Muslims, it is not necessary if we are short of time or in certain situations such as when we are travelling or sick. We should always strive to perform wudu’ before praying but if we cannot do so due to any reason then our prayers will still be accepted by Allah SWT.
