Sahih Muslim 3015 (Book 56, Hadith 1) #14580
The People of Israel and Their Twisted Statement

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the people of Israel and how they twisted a statement given to them by Allah, which resulted in their sins not being forgiven.

Hammim b. Munabbih reported: This is what Abu Huraira reported to us from Allah's Messenger and in this connection he narrated some of the ahadith and Allah's Messenger said: It was said to people of Israel: Enter this land saying Hitta (Remove Thou from us the burden of our sins), whereupon We would forgive you your sins, but they twisted (this statement) and entered the gate dragging upon their breech and said: The" grain in the ear".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be careful with your words and actions; Ask for forgiveness sincerely; Respect God's commands .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the people of Israel who were asked by Allah to enter a land saying "Hitta" which means "Remove Thou from us the burden of our sins". If they did this, their sins would be forgiven. However, instead of saying Hitta, they twisted it and said "The grain in the ear". As a result, their sins were not forgiven. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful with our words and actions as we are responsible for them before God. We should also remember that if we ask for forgiveness sincerely then God will forgive us no matter what mistakes we have made in the past.
