Sahih Muslim 3029b (Book 56, Hadith 31) #14570
Prostitution Forbidden in Islam

SUMMARY: This hadith is about two slave-girls who were forced into prostitution by their master, Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul, and how Allah revealed a verse in response to their complaint to the Prophet (PBUH) forbidding such an act.

Jabir reported that 'Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul had two slave-girls; one was called Musaika and the other one was called Umaima and he compelled them to prostitution (for which'Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul compelled them). They made a complaint about this to Allah's Messenger and it was upon this that this verse was revealed: " And compel not your slave-girls to prostitute" up to the words:" Allah is Forgiving, Merciful".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek justice for all regardless of social status or gender . Show mercy towards those who have wronged you . Do not force anyone into prostitution . Respect people’s rights no matter what their background may be .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of protecting people from being forced into prostitution and other forms of exploitation. It is narrated by Jabir that Abdullah bin Ubay bin Salul owned two female slaves named Musaika and Umaima whom he compelled to prostitution against their will. When they complained about this injustice to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, Allah revealed a verse in the Quran which forbids such an act and states that those who do so are committing a grave sin for which they will be held accountable on Judgment Day. The verse also reminds us that despite our sins we should always seek forgiveness from God as He is forgiving and merciful towards us all. This hadith teaches us many values including justice for all regardless of social status or gender as well as mercy towards those who have wronged us or committed sins against us.
