The Virtue of Humility

SUMMARY: Humility is a virtue that will be rewarded in Paradise, while arrogance and pride will lead to Hell-Fire.

Haritha b. Wahb reported that he heard Allah's Apostle as saying: May I not inform you about the inmates of Paradise? They said: Do this, of course. Thereupon Allah's Apostle said: Every humble person who is considered to be humble if he were to adjure In the name of Allah, He would fulfill it. He then said: May I not inform you about the denizens of Hell-Fire? They said: Yes. And he said: Every haughty, fat and proud (person).
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنِي مَعْبَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ حَارِثَةَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَلاَ أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِأَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالُوا بَلَى ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ كُلُّ ضَعِيفٍ مُتَضَعَّفٍ لَوْ أَقْسَمَ عَلَى اللَّهِ لأَبَرَّهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَلاَ أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِأَهْلِ النَّارِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالُوا بَلَى ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ كُلُّ عُتُلٍّ جَوَّاظٍ مُسْتَكْبِرٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of humility and how it can be rewarded in Paradise. It also warns against arrogance and pride, which can lead to punishment in Hell-Fire. Allah's Messenger Muhammad ﷺ taught us that those who are humble and have a sense of modesty will be rewarded for their good deeds, while those who are arrogant and proud will face consequences for their actions. He also said that if someone makes an oath in the name of Allah, He would fulfill it if they are humble. This hadith teaches us the importance of being humble and modest as it is a virtue that is highly praised by Allah ï·» . We should strive to practice humility in our daily lives so we can reap its rewards both here on Earth as well as in the hereafter.
