Sahih Muslim 2657b (Book 46, Hadith 32) #13827
The Predetermined Sins of Man

SUMMARY: Allah has predetermined the amount of sin that a person will commit, and these sins can be committed through the eyes, tongue, and heart.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle as saying: Verily Allah has fixed the very portion of adultery which a man will indulge in, and which he of necessity must commit. The adultery of the eye is the lustful look, and the adultery of the tongue is the licentious speech, the heart desires and yearns, which the parts may or may not put into effect.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful about what you look at, say and think .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that Allah has predetermined the amount of sin that a person will commit in their lifetime. These sins can be committed through the eyes, tongue, and heart. Through our eyes we may look at something with lust or admiration which is considered adultery. With our tongues we may speak licentiously or use foul language which is also considered adultery. Lastly with our hearts we may desire something wrongfully or yearn for something forbidden which is also considered adultery. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of what we look at, say and think as all these actions are taken into account by Allah when judging us on Judgement Day. We should strive to keep ourselves away from any form of sinning as much as possible so that on Judgement Day we are not held accountable for too many sins.
