Sahih Muslim 2646 (Book 46, Hadith 8) #13803
The Angelic Caretaker of the Womb

SUMMARY: Allah has appointed an angel to oversee the development of a person in the womb and determine their gender, character, livelihood and age.

Anas b. Malik reported directly from Allah's Messenger that he said: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, has appointed an angel as the caretaker of the womb, and he would say: My Lord, it is now a drop of semen; my Lord, It is now a clot of blood; my Lord, it has now become a lump of flesh, and when Allah decides to give it a final shape, the angel says: My Lord, would it be male or female or would he be an evil or a good person? What about his livelihood and his age? And it is all written as he is in the womb of his mother.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faith in God's will, trust Him with your life

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how Allah has appointed an angel to oversee the development of a person in the womb. This angel is responsible for determining certain aspects of a person's life such as their gender, character, livelihood and age before they are even born. It is believed that all these details are written down by this angel while they are still in their mother's womb. This hadith teaches us that Allah knows everything about us even before we come into existence and He has already planned out our lives for us according to His will. We should trust Him with our lives and have faith that whatever He does is for our own good even if we don't understand it at first glance.
