Sahih Muslim 2494b (Book 44, Hadith 233) #13484
Retrieving a Letter from the Garden of Khakh

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad sent four men to retrieve a letter from a polytheist woman in the garden of Khakh.

'Ali reported that Allah's Messenger sent me and Abu Marthad al-Ghitnavi and Zubair b. 'Awwam and we were all riders, and he said: Ride on until you reach the garden of Khakh for there is a woman amongst the polytheists and there is a letter with her sent by Hatib to the polytheists; the rest of the hadith is the same.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow orders given by those in authority ; Act with integrity & honesty ; Mindful intentions ; Careful with words & actions .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad sent four men - Ali ibn Abi Talib, Abu Marthad al-Ghitnavi, and Zubair b. 'Awwam - on a mission to retrieve a letter from the garden of Khakh. This letter was sent by Hatib to the polytheists and it is unclear what its contents were. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful with our words and actions as they can have consequences for ourselves and others. We should also be mindful of our intentions when engaging in any activity as Allah knows all that we do or say even if no one else does. Furthermore, this hadith shows us how important it is to follow orders given by those in authority over us such as religious leaders or government officials as long as they are not asking us to do something against Islamic teachings or laws. Finally, this hadith reminds us that Allah knows all things even if we think no one else does so we should always strive to act with integrity and honesty at all times regardless of who is watching or not watching us.
