Respect for Believers

SUMMARY: Respect the feelings of others and do not use harsh words.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: None of you should use the word al-harin (for grape) for the heart of a believer is Karm (worthy of respect).

QUICK LESSONS:
Choose your words carefully & speak with kindness & compassion
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us to respect the feelings of believers and to be mindful of our words. We should not use harsh words that may hurt someone's feelings, even if we are joking or speaking in a casual manner. Instead, we should choose our words carefully and speak with kindness and compassion. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used the example of grapes to illustrate this point; he said that one should not refer to a believer as al-harin, which is an Arabic word for grape, because it implies disrespect towards them. He instead suggested using Karm which means worthy of respect or honourable instead. This hadith reminds us that we must always be mindful of how our words can affect others and strive to show respect in all aspects of life.
