Sahih Muslim 2241b (Book 39, Hadith 201) #12939
Prophet's Mercy for an Ant

SUMMARY: The hadith is about an ant that bit a prophet of Allah and how the prophet reacted to it.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: An Apostle from amongst the Apostles of Allah encamped under a tree, and an ant bit him, and he commanded his belongings to be removed from underneath the tree. He then commanded and it was burnt, and Allah revealed to bin):" Why one ant (which had bitten you) was not killed?"

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness even towards small creatures like ants

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about the mercy and kindness of a prophet of Allah. It is said that once a prophet was resting under a tree when an ant bit him. He then commanded his belongings to be removed from underneath the tree and then commanded it to be burnt. However, Allah revealed to him asking why he did not kill just one ant which had bitten him. This shows us how merciful prophets are even towards small creatures like ants and how they should not be harmed unnecessarily. We can learn from this that we should show mercy even towards small creatures as they too have life and feelings just like us humans do.

The lesson here is that we should always show mercy towards all living beings no matter what size or species they belong to as all life forms are important in their own way and deserve respect from us humans who have been given more power than them by Allah Almighty Himself. We must remember that if we do not show mercy towards others then why would anyone else show mercy towards us?
