The Power of Good Words

SUMMARY: Good words are the best type of divination.

Abu Huraira reported: I heard Allah's Messenger as saying: There is no divination but the best type is the good omen. It was said to Allah's Messenger : What is good omen? Thereupon he said: A good word which one of you hears.

QUICK LESSONS:
Speak positively and kindly to others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the power of good words and how they can be seen as a form of divination. It was narrated by Abu Huraira who heard it from Allah's Messenger that there is no divination but the best type is the good omen. When asked what a good omen was, Allah's Messenger replied that it was a good word which one hears. This hadith teaches us to always speak positively and kindly to others as our words have an immense power in them and can bring about great change in people’s lives. We should strive to use our speech for positive purposes such as encouraging others or giving advice instead of using it for negative purposes like gossiping or backbiting. Our speech has an impact on ourselves too; when we speak positively we will feel more positive ourselves and vice versa. Therefore this hadith encourages us to think before we speak so that our words are beneficial not only for those around us but also for ourselves too!
