Sahih Muslim 2130a (Book 37, Hadith 192) #12677
The Garment of Falsehood

SUMMARY: Creating a false impression of receiving something one has not been given is wrong.

Asma' reported that a woman came to Allah's Apostle and said: I have a co-wife. Is there any harm for me if I give her the false impression (of getting something from my husband which he has not in fact given me)? Thereupon Allah's Messenger said: The one who creates such a (false impression) of receiving what one has not been given is like one who wears the garment of falsehood.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of truth and honesty. It tells us that creating a false impression, or deceiving someone by making them think they have received something when they have not, is wrong. Allah's Messenger compared this to wearing a garment of falsehood, which suggests that it is an act that should be avoided at all costs. We should always strive to be honest and truthful in our dealings with others, as this will bring us closer to Allah and help us lead better lives.
