Cleanliness in Eating

SUMMARY: Eating food should be done with cleanliness and one should not wipe their hands until they have licked it or had it licked.

Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it or has it licked*.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، - قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ الآخَرُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا - سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ، عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ طَعَامًا فَلاَ يَمْسَحْ يَدَهُ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَهَا أَوْ يُلْعِقَهَا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of cleanliness when eating. It teaches us that we should not wipe our hands after eating until we have either licked them or had them licked. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us to take care of our health by washing our hands before and after meals, as well as brushing our teeth regularly.
