Prohibiting the Preparation of Nabidh

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad forbade the preparation of Nabidh in gourd and varnished jar.

Ibn 'Umar reported: Allah's Messenger addressed people in one of his expeditions. Ibn 'Umar said: I went forward to him but he went away before I reached him. I asked (the people present there): What did he say? They said that he (the Holy Prophet) had forbidden the preparation of Nabidh in gourd and varnished jar.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَأَقْبَلْتُ نَحْوَهُ فَانْصَرَفَ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَبْلُغَهُ فَسَأَلْتُ مَاذَا قَالَ قَالُوا نَهَى أَنْ يُنْتَبَذَ فِي الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ

In this hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar, it is reported that the Prophet Muhammad addressed people in one of his expeditions and forbade them from preparing a beverage called Nabidh in gourds or varnished jars. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of what we consume and how it is prepared. We should not prepare food or drinks with materials that are not suitable for consumption as they can be harmful to our health. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us to respect the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and follow his instructions even if we do not understand why he has given them.
