Sahih Muslim 1915a (Book 33, Hadith 236) #12046
The Different Types of Martyrdom

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that martyrdom is not limited to those who are slain in the way of Allah, but also includes those who die in the way of Allah, from plague or cholera, and even those who drown.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira (through another chain of transmitters) that the Messenger of Allah said: Whom do you consider to be a martyr among you? They (the Companions) said: Messenger, of Allah, one who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr. He said: Then (if this is the definition of a martyr) the martyrs of my Umma will be small in number. They asked: Messenger of Allah, who are they? He said: One who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr; one who dies in the way of Allah, is a martyr; one who dies of plague is a martyr; one who dies of cholera is a martyr. Ibn Miqsam said: I testify the truth of your father's statement (with regard to this tradition) that the Prophet said: One who is drowned is a martyr.

Strive for what you believe in despite obstacles faced .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that martyrdom is not limited to being killed in battle for the sake of Allah. It can also include dying from a plague or cholera, as well as drowning. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was trying to emphasize that any death which occurs while striving for the cause of Allah is considered a martyr's death. He wanted his followers to understand that even if they do not die on the battlefield, their efforts and sacrifices will still be rewarded by God. This hadith teaches us about selflessness and dedication towards our faith and encourages us to strive for what we believe in despite any obstacles we may face.
