QUICK LESSONS:
Make peace instead of engaging in battle
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a conversation between Salim b. al-Ja'd and Jabir regarding the number of people who were present on the Day of Hudaibiya. On this day, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ made a peace treaty with his enemies in order to avoid war and bloodshed. When asked by Salim b. al-Ja'd how many people were present on that day, Jabir replied that there were one thousand and four hundred people in total. This hadith teaches us about the importance of peace over war as well as counting accurately when necessary for important matters such as this one. It also shows us that even though Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was outnumbered by his enemies during this event, he still chose to make peace instead of engaging in battle which would have resulted in unnecessary loss of life from both sides.
